Child Support (Alimony) Amount in Georgia 2026: What Courts Award

Child Support Amount in Georgia 2026: What Courts Actually Award
The most common question in family law is "how much will the support be?" The law sets no fixed sum: the court determines the amount individually. In practice the minimum benchmark is roughly GEL 150–200 per month per child; in case No. as-443-2024 the Supreme Court found GEL 300 reasonable. This is a benchmark, not a statutory minimum.
Factors the court weighs
- the parent's income and financial obligations;
- other dependants;
- the child's age and health;
- special education or medical needs.
How to claim support
Support can be set by agreement of the parties (before a notary) or through the court. An important relief: a claim for child support is exempt from the state court fee. In a divorce, if the parties disagree, the court must also determine support.
Changing the amount
Increasing, reducing, or releasing from awarded support happens only by court decision, on proof of a material change in circumstances.
